NUNEATON BOROUGH 0-1 COVENTRY CITY RESERVES BY KEV MONKS

An extra time goal from Lee Hildreth sent Coventry City into the Birmingham Senior Cup Quarter-Final.

On a cold night at Manor Park in deepest Treacle Town,Alan Cork named a strong reserve side for City's first Birmingham Senior Cup tie this century. This team included Ben Turner back from his loan at Peterborough plus Stephen Hughes and Kevin Kyle.

In the Boro side were former Sky Blues Robert Oddy and Mark Noon whilst Gary McPhee was on the bench.

With Micky Adams and Kirk Stephens amongst a crowd of 285.
Kevin Kyle had all the chances early on firing three times over the bar at the Cock n Bear End.

At times in a woeful first period ,City were their own worst enemies, not keeping hold of the ball only for Boro, who brought on McPhee for the injured Duane Darby,to waste the generosity.

Ben Turner fired over from a 62nd minute corner whilst the lively David Staff glanced wide from twenty yards five minutes later.

Cork made his first change in the 72nd minute when David Burtoft was replaced by Reis Ashraf as City went to 4-3-3.

Neither side looked bothered about winning, content to play out time in the hope the other would score.

Mikkel Bischoff again came through the game, looking comfortable at the back alongside Dale Jones who was booked in the 84th minute.

Not surprisingly,extra time followed.

Four minutes into the first period of stoppage time and the deadlock was broken by the Sky Blues. Andy Gooding took a corner,Nuneaton born Lee Hildreth got in a back header from three yards out and the ball went in beating Darren Acton on his right hand post.

Cork made another change three minutes after the goal when Liam Francis came on for Bischoff.

For the second fifteen minute period,It was back to 4-4-2 as Liam Robinson replaced Kevin Kyle.

Reis Ashraf wasted a great chance a minute in whilst Gonzalez did well to block a McPhee drive.

City played out the remaining time and ensured they went through to the next round.
