CHELSEA RESERVES 6-0 COVENTRY CITY RESERVES BY KEV MONKS
A strong Chelsea side proved way too good for the Sky Blues inflicting a six goal drubbing.
On a cold night at Aldershot Town's Recreation Ground,Alan Cork fielded a young side which saw Jonny Tuffey back in goal, Stuart Wall in for Matt Heath and Rikki Bains in for Ben Turner.
Chelsea, may have Champions League commitments this week but were able to field a very strong side with Lenny Pidgeley,Glen Johnson,Asier Del Horno and Carlton Cole in the starting line-up for the West Londoners.
Italian Del Horno who was only playing after he was sent off playing against Barcelona, had the first chance in the third minute with Tuffey saving following a Simmonds free kick.
In the eight minute, some good work by Vijay Sidhu saw the striker who scored a hat-trick against Cardiff on Saturday, get in a low drive which Lenny Pidgeley could only spill into the path of Craig Reid whose close range effort was blocked by Adrian Pettigrew on the line.
Chelsea were always a threat and in the 15th minute,Aaron Stringfellow superbly headed off the line from a Simmonds shot after a Cole cutback.
At the other end,the hard working Thornton pushed forward and hit a shot from the edge of the area which Del Horno cleared just short of the line for a corner.
On the half hour mark,Liam Davis surged into the penalty area, across came Anthony Grant to bring him down. Referee Danny McDermid decided the offence was outside the area, cautioned Grant and gave a free kick to the Sky Blues which Luke Webb fired over.
In the 38th minute,Liam Davis limped off to be replaced by Adam Layfield and seconds later,Luke Webb was clearly annoyed as he was replaced by Andy Gooding.
Chelsea took the lead two minutes before the break when no-one picked up Scott Sinclair whose left footed half volley from eight yards gave Tuffey no chance.
When Glen Johnson finally got onto the pitch a minute after everyone else, Chelsea needed only three minutes to go further ahead when the impressive James Simmonds span and fired low into the net.

Cork had to make his third substitution in the 52nd minute when Stuart Wall tweaked a hamstring and Ben Turner had to deputise.
Two goals became three down in the 56th minute when Danny Hollands smacked an unstoppable left footed drive from twenty yards past Tuffey.
Craig Reid may be the reserves top scorer but he had to defend and on the hour mark, the striker was forced to clear off his own line from a Cole header.
This was now getting embarrassing and Chelsea showed their class with a stunning strike from thirty yards by Danny Hollands flying into the net in the 62nd minute.
The home side went nap two minutes later when Glen Johnson tore down the right and his cross cum shot was parried by Tuffey back into the path of England international Johnson who headed in.
Eight minutes from time, Chelsea ended their master-class when Scott Sinclair rifled in.
Carlton Cole could have had a hat-trick at the end and to get away with only letting in six constitutes a reasonable performance.
