The Cashless System which was introduced to Coventry City home matches by the Ricoh Arena a couple of seasons ago has been modified.
Following complaints raised by the Supporters Consultative Group and others simply boycotting the purchasing of any food and drink in the Arena via a top up card or season ticket altogether, there will be a new system starting on Saturday whereby cash can be paid for food and drink at certain kiosks.
With the system coming to the attention of other clubs around the world, it was unlikely that those advocating the scrapping of the scheme would get their way. Now a compromise whereby some kiosks will accept cash as well as cashless cards has been reached.
The kiosks where cash and cards are accepted according according to the club website, to 'be in a clearly designated zone and will be well sign-posted around the Ricoh Arena.'
Ricoh Arena CEO Daniel Gidney told the club website: "For many supporters, it has been very popular because it is quick and easy to use but we recognise, through speaking to supporters' groups, that this popularity hasn't been the case for all fans - particularly those who attend on a one-off or occasional basis.
"To that end, we have spoken to everyone concerned with the food and drink outlets around the Ricoh Arena and we have taken the decision to make it that one-third of our kiosks can accept cash as well as the cashless card particularly targeting non-season ticket holders or casual attenders.
"We believe this strikes a good balance but we would still urge fans to use the cashless system because it does cut down on queuing times considerably and this year we will be introducing a loyalty pricing system for the benefit of season ticket holders."
