Arena Coventry Limited will be bringing in extra measures for concerts at the Ricoh Arena after some of the 8,105 attending The Specials gig at the Jaguar Exhibition Hall last Friday fell prey to pickpockets.

Reports of 50 to 120 people reporting items including wallets and phones being stolen at the gig have been circulating on various websites.

Ricoh Arena Facilities Director Anthony Mundy told the CT: "As the time, there was no intelligence of Specials gigs being targeted by pick pockets.

"We had nine police officers and 95 stewards on duty, there were amnesty bins, sniffer dogs, metal detection machines and body searches. When we realised there were some thefts taking place, the crimes were fully recorded on the night and full details taken.

"In fact several wallets were recovered with credit cards in but without cash. We met police early this week and will be putting further measures in place for our other concerts including automated talking signs to warn people to keep their belongings safe as well as a leaflet with a similar message.

"We take public safety and security extremely seriously. Most of the thefts took place in the first hour and the police will be continuing their investigations.

"The Ricoh Arena and the police will continue to work together carefully on future events but would ask people to carefully guard their possessions at all times."
