Coventry’s Steve Beaton cruised into the second round of Ladbrokes.com PDC World Darts Championships after easily whitewashing Spaniard Carlos Rodriguez 3 sets to 0 this evening at Alexander Palace.
The 45-year-old former BDO world champion and part-time driving instructor will next play Stoke’s Andy ‘The Hammer’ Hamilton next Tuesday evening and said after wards: “I went up there with the attitude of enjoying the game and it worked well for me.”
“The crowd were 100% behind me and that was brilliant. I’m really looking forward to my next match with Andy now.”
Interestingly next Tuesday will see another Cov Vs Stoke encounter as 'The Muffin Man' Steve Hine plays current world champion Phil Taylor. Both the Potterymen are higher ranked but if Hine and Beaton win their respective matches then it will put Coventry darts back on the sporting map and, of course, the greatest night in Coventry darts history.
