Steve Beaton's interest in this year's PartyPoker.com Grand Slam of Darts ended this evening at Wolves Civic Hall.
The 45-year-old world number 19 Coventry darter and part-time driving instructor received a 10 legs to 1 hammering from Australian Simon 'Wizard of Oz' Whitlock in a second round encounter.
Beaton's sole mark came in the eigth leg and amitted afterwards that Whitlock, ranked 98th in the PDC world standings was unstoppable: "I wouldn't say I played too badly but Simon took every chance he got," said Beaton, the former BDO world champion.
"Going into the break 5-0 down was a killer and your head goes down, and I was on the back foot from then.
"Simon came out on a mission and was brilliant, and if he carries on like this he'll be hard to beat this week."
