Bees At Swindon Off

Coventry Bees Elite League meeting at Swindon tonight has been postponed.

The decision has been taken due to the combinaton of a poor weather forecast for the area during the evening and a re-arranged play-off fixture in Poland which was causing rider issues for both clubs.

The Bees would definitely have been without their No.1 Krzysztof Kasprzak who was under orders to ride for Tarnow against Leszno, a meeting which was postponed last Sunday and immediately rescheduled for tonight whilst Swindon also have riders who are required in Poland.

Bees boss Alun Rossiter said to the Bees website: "It's not an ideal situation and I don't agree for a minute with the way the Poles do it, they can re-arrange fixtures at the drop of a hat and it's not right that British speedway suffers.

"It's something we absolutely have to look at over the winter, but I don't agree with those who say we should ban Polish riders from our league. We need the Poles, there are several good ones who commit themselves to racing over here and where would the riders come from if we didn't use the Poles?

"I was disappointed to learn that had the meeting gone ahead and had we used a facility for Krzysztof (Bees had booked Tai Woffinden), he would have been handed a 28-day ban which would have ruled him out of fixtures such as next week's Cup-tie against Wolves and also the Elite League Pairs.

"That would have been completely unfair as he has no choice but to ride in Poland when his Federation demands it. Things may have gone on in the past with him but since he joined Coventry he has not given us any trouble at all, he has been 100 per cent professional and it would have been wrong to ban him for something he can't do anything about.

"As it happens, the weather forecast for Thursday evening is absolutely dreadful, and that means there's no doubt that the early postponement is the right thing to do for everyone. At least it means when the meeting goes ahead we should both have full strength teams, which will benefit the supporters. Both clubs are in agreement over this issue."

The Bees are at home to Peterborough tomorrow night. Tapes up at 8pm weather permitting.
