In front of the Sky Sports cameras, an earlier than usual meeting start time of 4.30pm saw the Bees take to the track against the Ipswich Witches, tracking a team without the injured Simon Stead and also had No 8 Josh Auty line up in the 1st heat with reserve Ben Barket in rapid transit from an earlier meeting at Rye House.
Josh was excluded for touching the tapes and reserve Sitera replaced him for a shared heat.
The Sky cameras then showed Ben Barker arriving at the stadium and quickly getting changed in the car park before rushing to the track aboard Chris Harris bike. Sadly there wasn't a fairy tale result as he trailed last as Ipswich put in 2 consecutive 5-1's to open up an 8 point lead.
Back came the Bees in the next heat with a 5-1 themselves, and thereafter the match produced some thrilling racing with the teams trading elbows and places at the starts and some excellent outside passes.
Going into heat 14 the score was all square but an Ipswich 4-2 put the pressure onto the Bees though hopes were high with the unbeaten Hans Andersen lining up alongside Chris Harris in heat 15, with a Bees 4-2 required to draw the meeting.
Chris made a great start but Hans was baulked and in turn 3 almost came to a standstill havign to take avoiding action from Hampel of Ipswich. But the chase was on and back into the race came Hans swapping places with Hampel throughout the last 2 laps to see who would get the vital 2nd place.
A 4-2 to the Bees it was and a fair result in the draw giving a point apiece.
The Bees are now 5 points ahead of Peterborough in the 2nd from bottom (and therefore relegation playoff place) who have 3 matches in hand over the Bees, but equally lie only a point behing Belle Vue with a match in-hand.
