Coventry Bees Speedway Team were thrashed 70-20 at Peterborough Panthers on Friday night in an Elite League meeting at the East Of England Showground.
With Assistant Manager Blayne Scroggins having quit, the Bees guested Kozza Smith as a replacement for Adam Roynon and they faced a Peterborough team which had former Bees rider Chris Harris guesting.
Ryan Fisher beat Michal Szczepaniak in the opening heat for a 4-2, followed by three 5-1's.
With Peterborough 19-5 up, Krysztof Kazprzak took a tactical ride but Buczkowski and Hougaard got round him and it was another 5-1 for the home side.
The rain started to come down as Peterborough took a 5-1 in heat six, a 4-2 in a heat seven and a 5-1 in heat eight.
Scott Nicholls took the tactical ride in heat nine but he retired and it was another 5-1.
A re-run heat ten which saw Zengota excluded for breaking the tapes, gave Peterborough an easy 5-1 and it was a 5-1 a heat later.
Heat twelve saw Robson taken down by North who was excluded and Kozza Smith replaced Robson to finish second in a 3-3.
A 5-1 was followed by Summers finishing second in a 4-2 loss and the home fans were going mad when Peterborough recorded their biggest ever victory and the Bees joint heaviest ever defeat with a 5-1 in the final heat.
Coventry promoter Mick Horton said to the Bees website: “That was the worst night I’ve experienced in speedway. I’m devastated for the supporters and I can only apologise. If I could ride the bike, I would.
“We weren’t there at all, not for one race, and I am so, so disappointed. It’s not good enough, it’s unacceptable and there is no reason why we should be performing like this. I’m sure the riders are devastated as well, and we’ve got to make some decisions.
“I’m taking nothing away from Peterborough, though. On their current form they will beat anybody around here. They were fantastic, and fair play to them.”
