At the Showgrounds in Peterborough last night the Bees were the first part of a double header meeting with Belle Vue the second Elite league match on the night.

Looking to extend their unbeaten run of 16 Elite League matches the Bees set about their task in the early heats, establishing a 12 point advantage after the first 5 heats. However the Panthers started to pull back inthe next few heats with the Bees cause not helped by Chris Bomber Harris suffering an engine failure at the first cornet of heat 7. By the end of heat 9 the Bees lead had been cut back to 4 points at a track that has always seemed to be a bit of a bogey one for the Bees.
Bomber suffered further problems in heat 10 where after touching the tapes it was elected to start him of a 15 metre handicap as punishment rather than bring in a reserve. However another engine failure half way through the race but paid to Bombers attempts to score points and the Bees lead was now down to 2 points.

In the next heat Martin Smolinksi took the rider replacement ride for the injured Olly Allen only to suffer an engine failure also on the 1st lap and with the Panthers duo scoring a 4-2 the score on the night was tied at 33 points each.

The next 3 heats were shared which put the match into a last heat decider for the result. Peterborough had grand prix star Hans Andersen lining up alongside Kenneth Bjarre, whilst the Bees had Scott Nicholls and Bomber Harris.
From the start Andersen led all the way with Scott and Bjarre fighting over 2nd place for a couple of laps before Scott managed to pull away. However the heat 4-2 to the Panthers gave them the win on the night and ended the Bees awesome run of victories. The Bees did however win the bonus point, and had reserve Steve Johnston top scoring with 13+1 points from 6 rides, with Scott scoring 12 points from 5 rides. Due to his engine problems Bomber managed 4+1 from his 5 starts.

Tonight the Bees take on the Eastbourne Eagles, who's number 1 rider is grand prix champion elect Nicki Pedersen, at Brandon in their final Elite League match of the campaign before the play-off semi-finals next monday. Start time is the usual 8pm.
