At Monmore Green the Coventry Bees are always visitors that are guaranteed to increase the atmosphere a fair bit, such is the rivalry between the 2 sides, and tonights match proved to be no exception with some very close racing and a few incidents too.
With the Bees side again missing the injured Olly Allen the Bees opted to use the rider replacement option where his rides are taken by the other members of his team. Coventry number 8 Ben Barker remained at reserve instead of the also injured Andreas Messing.
Whilst the Wolves took a heat 1 advantage the following 2 heats have the Bees maximum points and to establish an early lead which the Bees maintained right up until the last heat.
The match was close with the Bees never more than 6 points in front, and heat 5 was eventful with only 2 riders finishing the race, this after Rory Schlein had been excluded for causing the Wolves rider Iversen to fall. In the re-run it was Iversen who ground to a halt after losing his chain.
The nest 2 heats were 4-2's traded by each team before a Wolves maximum 5-1 brought the Bees lead down to a solitary point.
Heat 11 was another with an incident where Rory Schlein was excluded after an incident which required treatment for both the Wolves riders, and following this the Wolves David Howe withdrew from the remainder of the meeting apparently suffering concussion.
The racing remained close with the Bees going into the final heat with a 3 point lead, so Chris Harris and Rory Schlein seeking to prevent the Wolves gaining the required 5-1 to take the win.
With the atmosphere cranked up to the max Chris Harris managed to hold on to 2nd place to ensaure that the Wolves, whilst winning the heat, were defeated on the nght by 45 points to 44.
