Coventry Blaze beat Edinburgh Capitals 6-5 in an over-time victory tonight.
At the Sky Dome tonight, Coventry went into the game missing Adam Calder, Brad Cruickshank and Greg Chambers as well as youngster Arron Neill.
The Blaze fans were straight on their feet when Luke Fulghum fired Coventry ahead after only 28 seconds of the first period with a goal assisted by Brian Lee and Dan Carlson.
They were still celebrating when Danny Stewart hit a second on 1.01, assisted by Jon Weaver and Greg Owen.
On 13.22 with Blaze net minder Peter Hirsch all over the place, Edinburgh pulled one back through Dan Welch, assisted by Martin Cingel and Jeff Hutchins.
Then, two minutes and 47 seconds into the second period and with Jason Robinson off the ice, the visitors equalised through Simon Lambert scored a powerplay goal, assisted by Owen Fussey.
However, back came the Blaze with Derek Campbell somehow finding the net for a powerplay goal on 25.27, assisted by Weaver and Fulghum.
A fourth goal and another powerplay goal for Coventry arrived on 31.22 through Derek Campbell, assisted by Dan Carlson.
Just before the end of the second, Edinburgh scored a third on 38.45 through an unassisted Jeff Hutchins goal and on 52.08, they equalised once more on 52.08 through a Jeff Hutchins powerplay goal, assisted by Fussey and Welch.
Things looked edgy but on 54.44, there was confusion over who scored with first Derek Campbell and then Dan Carlson being credited with a scrappy goal completed his hat-trick when he scored, assisted by Campbell and Fulghum.
The Blaze fans thought victory was insight but Simon Lambert netted on 59.01 to square the match at 5-5 and send the game into over-time with both sides taking a minimum of a point from the game.
Coventry made sure they got maximum points when Luke Fulghum hit the winner with an unassisted goal one minute and fifty seconds into over-time.
Next weekend, The Blaze travel to Hull Stingrays on Saturday before taking on Belfast Giants on Sunday at the Sky Dome.
