Coventry Blaze Ice Hockey team went down to a 3-1 defeat at Elite League Champions Belfast Giants on Saturday night.

There was a good Blaze following in the Odyssey Arena in Belfast to see The Blaze in a white uniform, go a goal down on 3.02 when Kevin Saurette scored his 30th goal of the season on 3.01.

The Blaze levelled on 3.58 when new signing Nejc Berlisk scored his second goal for Coventry fired past Murphy with a low shot, assisted by Ryan Ginand and Cale Tanaka.

Things stayed pretty even until the closing minutes of the game when Cale Tanaka received a penalty. He kicked his stick towards the referee leaving the Blaze with three players on the ice and getting a 2+10 penalty.

Evan Cheverie made the most of this and scored to put Belfast 2-1 up on the powerplay on 56.12.

Adam Henrich pushed a player in the head and things got heated. Ashley Tait got a game ban for squaring up to an official and then Adam Henrich joined Tait in being sent to the dressing room.

This infuriated the Blaze coach Marc Lefebvre, who took to the ice to have a go at the referee and he too was sent to the dressing room, with 1.08 remaining.

The Blaze called a time out and were short handed with four players on the ice when Mike Zacharias was pulled and with fifteen seconds remaining, Jeffrey Szwez scored a third to send the Blaze to the defeat in front of six thousands fans.

As hands were being shook and after the Blaze had thanked their fans, Mike Egener had a go at the referee and he too got a game ban.
