Coventry Blaze Ice Hockey team have confirmed they have signed Dustin Cameron for their upcoming 2012/13 Elite League season.
The 23-year-old native of Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, spent last season with Trenton Titans in the ECHL and is Blaze’s final import capture.
Cameron enjoyed six seasons in the Western Hockey League, posting 170 points (86 goals and 84 assists) in 284 matches, which included spells with Saskatoon Blades and Prince Albert Raiders, for whom he captained for two years.
His first professional season came in 2010/11 when he joined Elmira Jackals in the ECHL, registering seven points in 24 matches. He ended the campaign with Gwinnett Gladiators, scoring 19 points in 25 games.
For Trenton last term, Cameron produced 47 points (22 goals and 25 assists) in 72 appearances and was an assistant captain.
Coach Paul Thompson said to the Blaze website: “This was my last import signing so I have thought long and hard and waited for the right player to come along. I felt we needed someone a bit younger and who can fit into the type of team we are building this season.
“Dustin is a hard-nosed, physical player who will go to the net. He has a nice scoring touch and I am expecting him to get 20 goals this season.
“I spoke to Bruno Campese [former Bracknell Bees goaltender] about Dustin as he was his coach for a few years in junior and he feels he is totally suited to the British game. He is chomping at the bit to come here.”
Cameron joins Shea Guthrie, James Griffin, Ross Venus, Sam Smith, Russell Cowley, Peter Hirsch, Matt Selby, Jerramie Domish, Mike Danton, Gerome Giudice, Benn Olson, Mike Egener, Greg Leeb, Brad Leeb and Michael Schutte on the roster for next season.
