Coventry Blaze Ice Hockey Club went down to a 6-4 defeat at Sheffield Steelers tonight.

Long queues at the Box Office didn't delay the face off and the game got underway with Sheffield hitting the pipes in the fifth minute.

Then on 11.58, it was the Blaze fans who were cheering when Russ Cowley opened the scoring, assisted by Dan Carlson.

Fifty seconds later and Sheffield restored parity when Thomas scored and that was the way it stayed until 57 seconds in to the second period when Jeff Legue was allowed to get into the end zone and pass before getting the puck back and firing it into the net.

Talbot scored a third for Sheffield before Luke Fulghum reduced the arrears when he scored, assisted by Dan Carlson.

The Blaze had to replace the injured Brett Jaeger with Tom Murdy. Luke Fulghum scored again before Legue put Sheffield back in front.

Into the third and Owen Fussey was the second Blaze player back in the dressing room injured. Blaze kept going but Tait hit Sheffield's fifth on 52.50 with a short-handed goal.

On 58.05, Arron Nell scored a fourth for the Blaze, assisted by Owen and Fulghum, who was the Blaze Fans Man Of The Match to delight a good turn-out of Blaze fans but with 31 seconds of the match left, Clarke scored to give Sheffield a 6-4 victory.

On Sunday at 6pm, the Blaze face the Steelers again. This time it is at the Sky Dome and tickets are on sale now.
