Coventry Blaze Ice Hockey Club made short work of Elite League newcomers Dundee Stars with a 9-2 victory at the Sky Dome tonight.
Greg Owen gave Coventry an early lead on 3.58 when he got past two visiting defence man before hammering a shot past Kaufmann.
Dundee equalised on 6.49 with a short handed goal from John Dolan to delight the six fans who had made the journey down from Scotland but their fun was to be short lived.
On 10.37, Coventry were back in front thanks to a short handed tap in goal from Dan Carlson who was set up by Luke Fulghum and less than four minutes, later Owen Fussey hit the third with a powerplay goal after his first attempt was saved.
Brett Jaeger who was back in the pipes for Blaze was beaten by Steve Makway with a powerplay goal, two minutes and fifteen seconds into the second period.
Back came Coventry again. on 24.19, Jeff Smith made it 4-2, assisted by Sean Selsmer and Arron Nell and this was followed by another four goals before the period ended to see Coventry 8-2 up and the match over as a contest.
Luke Fulghum netted on 26.02, assisted by Fussey before Sean Selsmer and Arron Nell combined to set up Jon Weaver on 29.21.
On 37.07 and the Blaze on a powerplay, Owen Fussey scored, assisted by Greg Owen and with the Blaze fans in raptures, Brian Lee hit the eighth assisted by Sean Selsmer on 39.10.
Although it was a disappointing crowd inside the Sky Dome, there was still another goal to come and it arrived with eight minutes of the third period to go, thanks to Jon Weaver hitting home his second of the evening, assisted by Owen Fussey and Greg Chambers.

Sunday night sees Coventry Blaze take on Sheffield Steelers at the Sky Dome in a Challenge Cup game. Face off is at 6pm.
