Coventry Blaze were disappointingly beaten 5-2 at home by Cardiff Devils tonight.

Having beaten Cardiff 7-2 last night, the Blaze had Brad Cruickshank back for this Challenge Cup match at the Sky Dome in Croft Road.

Coventry took the lead after only 57 seconds when Luke Fulghum scored unassisted but the visitors levelled on 8.34 when they made the most of Cruickshank being off the ice for slashing and it was Max Birbraer who found the net for a powerplay goal.

On 14.46, Max Birbraer scored again to give Cardiff an end of first period lead.

Last night, Coventry hammered The Devils in the second period but tonight, it was Cardiff who went 3-1 when Jon Pelle scored on 37.43 with a powerplay goal.

Twenty eight seconds in to the third period, Jon Pelle hit his second of the night to further increase The Devils lead.

Pelle completed his hat-trick and had the Blaze fans heading for the exits when he scored a powerplay goal, assisted by Max Birbraer and Scott Matzka.

Those who walked out missed Luke Fulghum get his second of the night when he netted, assisted by Greg Chambers and Brian Lee on 51.44.
