Coventry Blaze won 4-2 at Basingstoke Bisons tonight in an Elite League match.

Coventry Blaze, who have five players in the Great Britain squad for the World Championships in Torun, Poland from April 11-17th, took the lead at Basingstoke on 5.44 when one of those called up by Paul Thompson - Jon Weaver scored assisted by Adam Calder.

Just before the end of the first period, The Blaze went further in front thanks to Erik Hjalmarsson scoring from assists by Leigh Jamieson and Barrie Moore.

The discipline from Paul Thompson's side had been good in the first period but in the second with Carlyle Lewis off the ice for hooking, The Bisons pulled one back on 32.58 through Brent Hughes.

That was the only goal of the second period and the Blaze fans at the game had to wait until the 52nd minute when Blake Forsyth hit the third, assisted by Joe Henry and Sylvain Deschatelets.

Shaun Thompson pulled another goal back for The Bisons on 55.57 but with the Basingstoke net minder pulled, Blaze wrapped up the match with a fourth with three seconds left. Erik Hjalmarsson scored the goal assisted by Russ Cowley.

Tomorrow night, Coventry Blaze are at home to Hull Stingrays. Face Off is at 6pm. There will be a minutes silence before the game in memory of Dave Page, Nottingham Panthers, Elite League and Powerplay photographer who passed away earlier this week.
