City Ladies Looking To Secure Promotion

COVENTRY City Ladies first-team coach Paul Cudby insists his side will enter their final match of the season in the same way as any other as they look to secure promotion to the top flight of women's football.

The Sky Blues will finish second in the Premier League Northern Division behind league winners Aston Villa should they beat Derby away from home tomorrow evening and Cudby is looking forward to finishing of the season in style.

"Nothing has changed from our approach to the last few games," said Cudby.

"Tuesday's match against Derby County gives us a wonderful opportunity to put the icing on the cake to what has been a fantastic debut season for us already after coming up from the Midlands Combination League last year.

"And if we can finish it off with a win and gain promotion to the National Premier League then even better."

Should the Sky Blues fail to win, then their hopes of playing in the top flight could be dashed by Manchester City who would leapfrog Cudby's side into the second automatic promotion spot should they beat Leicester City on Sunday.

Cudby welcomes back Milly Durrant into his squad after holiday and Sue Wood could return between the sticks in place of Netty Manca.

Meanwhile, Coventry City Ladies reserve team currently find themselves top of the Midlands/North Division Two League after winning their final match of the season 4-1 against Nottingham Forest.

Mark Kavanagh's side could record a second possible promotion for Coventry City Ladies should second-placed Lincoln fail to win one of their two remaining fixtures.
