Coventry City were beaten 3-1 at Millwall Lionesses in a FA Womens Premier League Cup 2nd Round tie this afternoon.
On a sunny afternoon at Beckenham Town, City, who have former Sky Blue Barry Powell on their coaching staff and adorned in their new City-Link sponsored away kit, started brightly with two long range efforts from Jade Formaston.
Millwall, who won the competition in 1997, came back into the match, winning three corners against a City defence well marshall by Natasha Lynch.
The home side relied on the counter-attack and it was this which led to Lindsey Morgan opening the scoring for Millwall five minutes into the second half when she bundled home a cross from the impressive Emma Whitter off the City keeper.
Kirsty Robson who had come on for Nicky Miles at the break, wasted a good chance when clean through and in the 57th minute, the Sky Blues were made to pay when Megan McKeag was allowed space on the left hand side of the area to chip a shot from eighteen yards high in to the net.
Chris Tordiksen, who worked hard up front was for Paul Cudby's side was involved in a 66th minute move that saw a Robson shot deflected for a corner.
Manca made a cracking stop with her feet to thwart Viggor but she could do nothing to prevent the Lionesses from scoring a third goal through Emma Beckitt who was given time and space inside the area to score.
The bar came to City's rescue twice in the 86th minute when efforts from Beckitt and Lizzie Edwards hit the bar.Coventry were worth a goal and it came two minutes from time when Robson fed Katy Male on the right. A sublime ball across the area fell for Callen Barber to thump into the net and give the Sky Blues some consolation.
