Great Britain could have a team in this year's Tour De France, according to Bradley Wiggins.

The Olympic Champion, who rode in the 2006 race, has provisionally signed for David Millar's Garmin Chipotle team but would take up the option to ride for his country in the world's greatest cycle race.

"I think it will happen," said the West Ham United supporting Wiggins. "They are in the early stages of putting that together and it would be phennomenal if it does as we have the talent.

"You need the right team and a sponsor who is going to put in £8m a year and they appear to have that but I don't know who that is yet."

It is understood that Mark Cavendish, who won four stages in the 2008 TDF as well as Chris Hoy are to be approached.
