A crowd of 932 at the Butts Park Arena saw William Robinson put Cambridge ahead with a seventh minute try before Sam Herrington went over for Coventry seven minutes later.
Lee Audis converted but a 31st minute Len Ashcroft-Lee try which Ben Spencer converted had Cambridge 12-7 ahead at the break.
In the 63rd minute, that lead was increased when Darren Fox ran in a try and again Spencer converted.
Coventry came back with a try from John Lowden that was converted by Ben Russell but they could not stop Fox from scoring in the 80th minute and Spencer converting to give Cambridge a 26-14 victory.
