Coventry Blaze beat Newcastle Vipers 9-2 tonight in an Elite League fixture.
In front of a nearly full Skydome with around one hundred supporting the North East based side, Newcastle took the lead on a power play due to Tom Watkins being off the ice with a 2 plus 2 for accidential high sticking. Dave Longstaff scored the goal after 5.25 assisted by Burt Henderson and Mark Gouett.
Their lead lasted one second under two minutes as Ben O'Connor netted assisted by Dan Carlson and Adam Calder.
On a power play, Paul Thompson's side took the lead on 16.07 through Carlyle Lewis. Again, Dan Carlson provided an assist.
Blaze had 21 shots in the opening period and kept up the pressure. With seventy three seconds of the start of a goal crazy second period, Blaze had increased their lead thanks to Barrie Moore finding the net from a Corey LeClair assist.
Moore turned provider for Sylvain Deschatelets to add a fourth after 25.12 and six minutes later, he got another assist as Russ Cowley sent Coventry nap when he fired home.
Man Of The Match Sylvain Deschatelets notched his second and third (on a powerplay) of the night either side of the Geordies pulling one back through Derek Campbell.
The third period was a lot quieter but there was an eighth for the Blaze through Adam Calder after 46.51 and three minutes from time, Scott Kelman found the net to wrap up an 9-2 win.
Blaze have a free night next Saturday after their away game at Basingstoke was re-arranged for March 7th, so the next game is at home to Cardiff Devils next Sunday. Face off at the Sky Dome is at 6pm.
