Last weekend 22 year old Cov kid, Cal Crutchlow was in fine form in the British Superbike Championship at Thruxton, Hampshire.

This was the opening round of the season after the original first round at Brands Hatch was cancelled on race day due to heavy snow.

The HM Plant Honda rider put in some very good times in free practice sessions posting the 4th, 1st and 3rd best times respectively in the three sessions. During timed qualifying he continued to shine where he qualified on the front row of the grid in 4th place.

On Sunday it was race day and Cal finished 2nd in race one behind 2003 BSB Champion Shane Byrne and ahead of Michael Rutter in 3rd. In race two it was the same three on the podium again but this time Cal took his first ever BSB win with Byrne 2nd and once again Rutter in 3rd. Cal left the Hampshire circuit sharing the overall series lead with Byrne, with both riders on 45 points.

The next round is on the bank holiday weekend of 3rd, 4th and 5th May at Oulton Park, Cheshire. Keep checking the site for a preview and report of the round.
