Enemy Wow Cov Festival Crowd

Coventry band The Enemy sent a crowd of around 8,000 Coventrians home happy from the Godiva Festival tonight.

Tom, bassist Andy, drummer Liam and Tom Boddy who joined them on keyboards were the headline act at the Electric Tent at the Godiva Festival which finishes tomorrow (Sunday) at the War Memorial Park.

Organisers CV One, who put on a good event which included a wide range of cultural acts, activities and a fair, had only received their licence after objections from residents in nearby Amorial Avenue in Styechale about the noise.

It was highly noticeable that the sound had been turned down for the tight 58 minute set but this did not put off the band who had put on an excellent performance at the Glastonbury Festival a week ago.

The organisers had expected a gate of anywhere up to 30,000 but the rain which started around 7pm and was very heavy in patches, meant that numbers were down but those who went throughly enjoyed themselves as hits like Away From Here, 40 Days,Pressure, Had Enough and the final song "You're Not Alone" were danced to, in typical festival fashion, in the mud with passion and vigour.

Any gaps in the set, gave the chance for the Sky Blue Song to boom out from the crowd who refrained from the bottle throwing which marred the gigs at the Ricoh Arena and ensured that everyone had a good night.

Lead singer and guitarist Tom Clarke may have invited everyone down The Kasbar for a bottle of Becks afterwards but it could be a while before we see them in Coventry again as the band set out at the start of August to tour America following the release of their album "We Live And Die In These Towns".

Where they go after America is open to debate but they will always receive a special welcome in Coventry.
