Coventry sprinter Joel Fearon reckons his disqualification from the men’s 100m semi-final heats in UK Championships yesterday at Alexander Stadium, Birmingham may have cost him his place in the British Team for next month’s world championships, wirtes Ziad Chaudry.
The 24-year-old international bobsleigher from Binley jumped before the gun went and was immediately given the red flag.
Fearon, who competes for Birmingham-based Birchfield Harriers, has already achieved the recommended world championship A standard time last week in La Chaux-de-Fonds, Switzerland and is fourth in the pecking order for next month’s championships in Moscow, Russia.
“I went before the gun went so it’s called cheating,” Fearon said exclusively to Covsupport News Service.
“The disqualification may go against me a lot as that could cost my place in the worlds.
“I’m not really happy but what’s done is done, I’ve just have to move on to the next one.
“But I’m not too sad, I’ve had a really blessed year so I’m grateful for everything I’ve been given.”
