Great Win For Cov Rugby

Coventry Rugby Club put in a superb performance tonight to win their first British/Irish Cup match of the season.

At Butts Park Arena tonight in front of a crowd of 806, Coventry beat Scottish side Heriots FP by 57-12.

Coventry were ahead on five minutes when Simon Frewin went over. James Thomas converted and did again three minutes later after Scott Roberts scored with a try.

Thomas increased his points tally on seventeen minutes with a try and conversion.


Henno Venter went over in the 28th minute with Thomas kicking his fourth conversion of the match before the half ended with tries for Scott Roberts and Phil McKenzie and Phil Maynard's side 38-0 up at the interval.

David McCall scored with a try for the visitors five minutes into the second half, only for Ollie Winter and Rob Dugard to score for Cov in the 56th and 63rd minute.

Joe Carlisle converted Dugard's try to take Coventry to fifty points. In the 75th minute, Louis McGowan scored another try for Cov which Carlisle converted.

With two minutes of the match left, Richard Tran was allowed a try for the visitors which was converted by Colin Goudie to see Coventry 57-12 victors.

Coventry will be looking to avenge a 42-6 defeat earlier this season when they take on Bedford at the Butts Park Arena next Friday night.
