Jets At The Double

Coventry Jets American Football team claimed back to back victories, for the first time this season, as they did the double in the Midlands derby game against Birmingham on Sunday.

The scoreline of 25-8 doesn’t really do justice to the Bulls who, on the back of a powerful running game, shot out to an 8:0 lead before the Jets had got into gear.

Running back James ‘Chuka’ Ogbuneke hit back with a 5 yard touchdown just before half time, leaving the game in the balance at 6:8 at the break.

The Jets coaching staff made several adjustments particularly on defense, for the second half which really paid off, as the Jets went onto score nineteen unanswered points in the second half.

The scoring was led by Ogbuneke who made it a hat-trick as he weighed in for two more touchdowns on runs of 34 and 70 yards, it could have been four if his 71 yard run had not been pulled back courtesy of a dubious referees call. Jets defense also got in on the act as linebacker Oli Campbell redeemed himself from giving away a silly penalty on the previous play, when he forced and recovered a fumble took it for 34 yards into the Bulls endzone. Elliot Strong then added the conversion.

The Jets now have break from Premier League competition, which will allow them to be back at full strength when they are next in action at the Sphinx Club on July 28th.

The visitors will be the Predators from Sheffield, which should prove to be an interesting encounter as the two have never played each other before.
