Jets Secure First Silverware of the Season
In the build up to their European debut the Cassidy Jets have scooped a league awards double. Tim Spaull secured the coveted British American Football League's Most Valuable Player whilst Adam Etheridge was named Volunteer of the Year, both awards recognise their efforts in 2007. Tim started 8 games at quarterback and led the Jets into the playoffs and to their third bowl game in as many years.
Head Coach Gerry McManus was delighted by the news "Tim once again showed great character and leadership during the 2007 season and although starting the season as our back up quarterback every time he was asked to step forward to lead the team he did so without selfishness or complaint which speaks volumes for Tim"
Spaull, who relocated to the South coast during the off-season, has now parted company with the Coventry club, but not before he picking up the Offensive Player of the Year Award as well as the much coveted 'Player's Player of the Year' at the Jets Awards Evening. The League MVP will now be showcasing his talent for BAFL Premier rivals the Farnham Fast Lane Knights.
Adam Etheridge was awarded the Inaugural Volunteer of the Year Award and McManus was once again on hand to offer his praise "This is a fantastic award for Adam, he works tirelessly behind the scenes for the Jets. He was heavily involved in organising and liaising with EFAF during our last European campaign, which involved trips to Italy and Austria. On top of all this he finds time to be Club statistician, Game Day Manager, Secretary and commentator. McManus went on, "The whole Jets organisation is very proud of Adam, it's people like him that make this game so special to be involved in"
The newly appointed Club Secretary was quick to share the credit "I'm delighted to accept this award on behalf of the Cassidy Jets, It's a tremendous organisation that I'm proud to be part of and I feel that this is recognition for the hard work that we put in behind the scenes as a team". The Cassidy Jets now turn their attention to Saturday's Eurobowl showdown with the Valencia Firebats. The game is at Warwick University (next to the athletics track, just off Kirby Corner Road) and kick-off is at 14:30.
