This Saturday will see a re-match of last seasons Britbowl final as the London Blitz travel to face the Cassidy Jets at Warwick University. It marks the first meeting of the two clubs since the Blitz won 14-6 to claim the national title in Sheffield's Don Valley Stadium last September. The only other previous meeting also saw the London club emerge victorious as the Jets fell 28-24 in Finsbury Park.
After the Jets 67-0 season opening victory last weekend against the Bulls both teams currently stand joint top with a 1-0 record. The Blitz opened up their title defence with an impressive 48-0 shut-out when they took the long trip up to Gateshead 2 weeks ago. Head Coach Gerry McManus' side will be boosted by the return of defensive backs Adam Biggs and Ahmed Hashim as well as defensive captain Paul Newey.
On the offensive side of the ball wide receiver James Hossack will miss out as he continues to rehab his fractured wrist. Hossack's former Loughborough Aces team mate Rod Bradley, better known as 'Spartan' from TV's Gladiators, is expected to turn out for the defending champions and will hope to reprise his starring role from last seasons final (5 receptions; 97 yards; 1 touchdown).
"The whole team is looking forward to the visit of the defending National Champions and the challenge of matching up against them this early during the season" stated Head Coach Gerry McManus. "There wasn't much between the two teams last season and both games were tough, no holds barred battles, and it will be interesting to see how we both match up this year".
Warwick University will host the eagerly anticipated match-up on Saturday (24th of May). As well as early season bragging rights the winner is set to move a game clear at the top of the table, kick-off is 16:00 and entrance is £3 for adults and £1 for under 16s. Free car parking is available in car park 13 off Kirby Corner Road.
