After a resounding third round 10-1 win over Stratford Town Ladies in the Birmingham County Cup, Coventry City Ladies have been handed a quarter final tie away to local outfit the Coundon Court Ladies.
The Sky Blues will be pleased to have avoided National Premier League side Birmingham City, who've eliminated Coventry from the competition on the previous four occasions.
On his sides emphatic victory at the weekend Sky Blues' Manager Paul Cudby commented that "the performance was a very professional way to finish off 2008. There was some good play at times & some nicely taken goals too. Hopefully there were plenty of individuals taking some confidence from their performance today. The players all know there are going to be plenty of tough challenges ahead of them in 2009 & they're all looking forward to it, which is great to see".
A Cherelle Archibald hat-trick highlighted the win, whilst Helen Dermody & Nicole Tinto both bagged a brace. Kelly Henson scored her first of the season while Captain Natasha Lynch notched her third. Katie Singleton scored her first senior goal within seconds of coming on as a second half substitute for Kelly-Anne Willis, who made a welcome return after 2 months on the sidelines with a calf injury.
Coundon Court currently sit mid-table in the Birmingham F.A. Premier Division & had a good result winning 4-2 away to Kinghurst Sporting in the third round. The quarter final tie will be played on January 18th but prior to that Coventry return to league action. A tough test awaits the Sky Blues as they travel to face the Baggies on January 4th before a home match with Crewe Alexandra the following Sunday.
