Ladies Prepare For Leicester

With the weather playing havoc upon this weekends fixtures the Coventry City Ladies remain in first place of the Midland Women's Combination League as all matches were postponed. The Sky Blues, whose visit to Leafield Athletic had already been postponed due to their opponents having an outstanding cup fixture, won't be in league action again until 2009.

At the midway point of the season the Sky Blues have bounced back from an inauspicious opening which saw them lose three of the first five games. Last weekends victory against the Rams has seen the club turn their year around after dropping to eighth place. Manager Paul Cudby knew that his side had overcome a major obstacle on the road to promotion "Derby are a really strong, well organised side and to get a win in the manner we did was excellent".

"This group of players have been nothing less than 100% committed over the past seven games and they've worked so hard to get their rewards for it. They all know that there is a long way to go this season and are fully focused on ensuring they prepare well for the next game. Since losing to Loughborough, we've turned in some terrific performances and there's a very strong team spirit amongst everyone, and it's showing on the pitch."

The enforced break has provided City an extra week to prepare for their FA Cup third round clash away to the Leicester City Women. The Sky Blues have also received a major boost with the news that Jade Formaston's hip injury wasn't as severe as first thought. With no breaks or fractures the skilful winger looks set to take her place in the crunch cup tie.
