After scoring ten goals in their past two matches, Manager Paul Cudby has been pleased by the recent performances of his young squad. The Coventry City Ladies have scored 12 whilst conceding just once since they fell 4-0 behind in the first half of a defeat at the hands of third placed Wolves. The 4-2 defeat looked to be a death blow to City's promotion hopes but Derby's recent faltering form has the Sky Blues well placed for a final promotion push.
Coventry take a break from league action on Thursday as they face bitter rivals Copsewood in the semi-final of the League Cup. After meeting three times already this season, Cudby knows what to expect "Copsewood are always a tough team to beat, they're very well organised with some good players and we'll have to be at our best to get the win. I'm confident in the players to perform at the levels they're all capable of, and I'm sure it'll be a great game".
The two clubs met in early March with City comfortably dispatching their visitors 2-0. Copsewood were without some key players on the day and will be looking for a repeat of the performance that saw them pull off a 1-0 win the last time they entertained Coventry. That early season victory briefly sent Copsewood to the top of an embryonic Midland Women's Combination League table, a position that the Sky Blues currently hold.
Captain Natasha Lynch sees the game as an opportunity to further stamp the club's dominance within the City "It's a big game for us as Coventry has two women's teams in this league. We want to prove that we're the best by playing some great football so that when people talk about women's football in Coventry it's us they think of first. It will be a good test of character, we'll play our way and put on a great performance".
A lengthy injury list means the Sky Blues will be without the likes of long-term absentees Katie Singleton and Natalie Wilcox, whilst Danni Saulter and Emily Hanson were both withdrawn early against Radcliffe at the weekend as a precaution. The match promises to be fiercely contested and will be played at Copsewood RFC, just off Allard Way. Kick off is 19:45
