Coventry City Ladies' 3-0 win over Wolves on Sunday fired them into their first Cup Final in 4 years and put an exclamation mark on a run of results that already stands as one of the clubs most impressive in it's history. 13 wins from 14 games has seen the Sky Blues ascend to the summit of the Midland Women's Combination League and, quite apart from their County Cup achievements, they still have a League Cup Semi-Final to play.
After a shaky start to the season Manager Paul Cudby has overseen a tremendous turn in fortunes for the club and was quick to dish out the praise for a superb performance at the weekend "I'm delighted for everyone involved, the players and coaches were all focused on what they wanted to do against Wolves and got everything they deserved with the performance and result. Their reward is a cup final appearance and with the form everyone's in I'm sure we'll make it a great spectacle for women's football whoever we face".
With the County Cup Final still a month away Cudby is able to turn his full focus to the Club's main aim, winning the Midland Women's Combination League and securing promotion to the Northern Premier Division. This weekend's away trip to Derby could go a long way towards achieving that goal. The Rams currently sit just one point behind City at the top of the table and still have a game in hand.
Cudby knows just how pivotal this match could prove "It's a big game for both teams, and a chance to extend our terrific run. Derby are a very well organised team with some good players, our girls though are in excellent form and shape - we know what we need to do and I'm sure we'll give a great account of ourselves". In the home fixture back in late November the Sky Blues edged out their visitors 2-1 with goals from on loan midfielders Milly Durrant & Chrissy Torkildsen.
Whilst both Torkildsen and Durrant are both likely unavailable, Cudby will be able to call on Lyndsey Bryenton, who made her comeback as a substitute in Sunday's victory. The composed centre half returned to the squad after an enforced lay off with a broken bone in her right hand. Ali Forbes and Abi Cockayne have played able deputies whilst the defensive stalwart waited to have a hard cast removed.
