Leamington FC have issued the following statement following reports that they will require a new stadium as Warwick District Council have identified the New Windmill site as a preferred option with the 'local plan for gypsies and travellers'.

The statement issued by Leamington's Board is as follows:

Leamington FC Board of Directors make the following statement with regards to recent press articles highlighting that the New Windmill Ground facility has been included by Warwick District Council (WDC) as one of the preferred options within a list of sites that are under consideration by WDC to meet its future mandated obligations within the' Local Plan' for Gypsy and Traveller site provision in the district in the next 15 years.

"We are fully aware and understand our fans concerns relating to this issue, particularly in light of the clubs historical absence from the field of play between 1988 and 2000 .  The unexpected rapid development of the club since it's re-birth in the year 2000, both on the field of play and within the community has highlighted the constraints of the existing site and led the Board of Directors to explore potential opportunities for a relocation nearer to the heart of the community, in a facility that would be more accessible and meet the expanding needs of the club.

We have stated clearly in previous meetings with fans and shareholders that any such relocation will only be considered by us, providing it makes sound financial and operational sense and we retain control of our own destiny. Discussions have been ongoing with Warwick District Council for a number of years on potential opportunities to place the club at the heart of the community and discussions continue with both WDC and potential landowners.   Warwick District Council accept that any such relocation of the club is conditional upon the clubs agreement, acknowledging it's increased standing and role within the community.

We are unable to comment further at this stage but can assure fans that we will not pursue any course of action that would endanger the longevity, stability and ownership of the club."
