Coventry Blaze have completed the signing of American defenceman, Brian Lee from the Briancon Diables Rouges of the French Elite League.
Twenty-four year old Lee scored four goals and sixteen assists in his 38 games for the successful French sidelast season.
The Michegan born defender was drafted in the 3rd round of the 2002 NHL Entry Draft by the Anaheim Mighty Ducks and has played in the East Coast Hockey League and American Hockey League as well as the Ontario Hockey League where he spent five seasons with the Erie Otters.
"Brian is exactly what we didn't start the season with last year,"said Paul Thompson to the Blaze website. "He's big, he's physical, he's hungry and he comes with a very high reputation for being a solid all round performer. His coaches in France and Stockton - where he was their defenceman of the year - have nothing but praise for his all round ability and attitude. Greg Owen also told me that he would be an impact player in the league this year.
"Briancon wanted to re-sign him but he wants the challenge of another country and sees coming to Coventry as giving him both that challenge and opportunity. A big key for me was that he has won Championships at Junior and Pro levels and despite him being relatively young, he's eager for more. That's a big tick in the box for me. We're delighted to have him on board for the coming season.
Lee is looking forward to continuing his European adventure with the Blaze
"I really enjoyed my first season in Europe and I really wanted to stay over here this season. I'm so pleased that the Coventry opportunity came up and I'm really excited to be coming to both the city and the UK. All the research I've done about Coventry has been positive and I want to be a part of it. It was good to be able to talk with Greg Owen about the hockey in the UK and also about the club and the organisation behind it. It made it a really easy decision for me and I can't wait to join up with the team at the start of next season."
