Massey Ferguson To Quit Midland Combination League

As expected Coventry side Massey Ferguson have announced that they will resign from the Midland Combination League at the end of the season.
The decision appears to have been made by the committee of the Massey Ferguson Sports and Social Club rather than the football club, who joined the Midland Combination in the early 1990's along with Coventry Sphinx.
Massey's Social club chairman Graham Drayton said to the CT: "After careful consideration by the general council of Massey Ferguson Sports and Social Club, it's with regret we have to take this decision to exit the Midland Combination but the demands placed on teams competing in senior level football, such as the Combination and those above, are onerous.
"The health and safety requirements, together with the need to screen the playing area plus the erection of a turnstile and a spectator entrance would drive towards an arena-style facility at our sports field which would restrict access to some facilities at the ground and limit use by other groups.
"We applaud the senior football team's commitment and ambitions but our policy is to provide a balanced and inclusive programme for all our members and the local community to enjoy. Importantly, reflecting the spirit and mission of the club, we are strongly committed to encourage even greater use of the existing sports field facilities by others, including junior football teams of all ages and cricket teams at all levels.
"Massey Ferguson Sports & Social Club provides a wide range of facilities and activities, both for the firm's farm machinery employees past and present, as well as the local community. More than 20 groups utilise the facilities including runners, cricket, caravan and camping, dog training, martial arts, photographic, dancing and retired members club."
