The 189 riders did a lap of London to say goodbye before heading to the finish in Canterbury.
Massive crowds were again out on the roads and they spurred David Millar to break away. The Maltese born rider was eventually caught by the peleton but had done enough to take the available sprint points and obtain the polka dot jersey and third place in the battle for the Maillot Jaune.
Interviewed after the race, Millar said the ride was to thank the British for all their support.
All the rest of the British riders finished in the pack apart from Mark Cavendish who had to change bike three times after a crash.
Yesterday's prologue winner Fabien Cancellera leads the way with Andreas Klodin in second place.
The riders are now heading for Folkestone to cross the Channel for Stage Two which starts in Dunkirk tomorrow and finishes in Ghent.
