The Coventry Jets have teamed up with NHS Coventry to offer free Chlamydia testing to all of their staff and fans aged 15-24. The screening will take place at their must win home game with the Farnham Knights on Saturday the 14th of August at the Butts Park Arena. "We're delighted to support the "Got It?" campaign" stated General Manager Gerry McManus "It's a simple test and worth taking a few seconds out of your day for."
Lou Brack, Co-ordinator of the programme, is delighted to have the 2008 national champions onboard. She said: "We are in the process of offering free Chlamydia testing to all 15-24 years old in sporting venues throughout Coventry so having the support of the Jets will be a tremendous help. Testing is simple with participants just having to fill out a form and provide a urine sample. The aims of the National Chlamydia Screening Programme are; to control Chlamydia through the early detection and treatment of infection, to prevent the development of later medical complications including arthritis in the knee joints and to reduce onward transmission to others."
"We're also working to ensure easy access to Chlamydia screening at a wide range of venues and to give client's a choice of access for both testing and treatment. Our staff have been trained as outreach workers and are used to dealing with concerns or queries that both clients and staff may have. We can contact participants via their preferred contact method that they can indicate on their form". Anyone that wishes to take the test will be given free condoms as well as a pair of boxer shorts.
On the field the Jets will be focused on their must win match up with the Knights. A defeat would almost certainly kill off the Coventry's hopes of a playoff berth as they'd be reliant on other results. Victory on the other hand would secure a semi-final place for the Jets. Coventry have already played Farnham, a team they've never lost to, once this season winning 43-19 in Farnborough on the 11th of July.
A repeat of that performance will guarantee the Jets at least fourth place in the end of season playoffs. Coventry have long been out of contention for a home game in the semi finals and know that if they do qualify they'll face a trip to either the London Blitz or Bristol Aztecs, two teams that have already defeated the Jets twice each this season. Saturday's match kicks off at 16:00 at the Butts Park Arena and will be preceded by the youth team's final match of their season as they entertain the Sheffield Predators at 12:00.
Tickets for the doubleheader are reasonably priced at just £5 for adults and £2 for under 16's. A family ticket is also available at a cost of £10 and grants admission to 2 adults and up to 4 children.
