Coventry Godiva's Marlon Devonish wished he concentrated on doing just one event rather than two at Aviva LONDON Grand Prix IAAF Diamond League meeting, writes Ziad Chaudry.
The damp wet weather at an ageing Crystal Palace stadium may have not been ideal for sprint racing despite the brilliant times produced by Tyson Gay and David Oliver in the 100m and 110m hurdles, respectively.
The popular 34-year-old City fan failed to qualify for yesterday evening's 100m final.
This afternoon he finished 6th in the 200m posting a time of 20.63secs with Amercian Wallace Spearman taking the honours in 20.12secs.
" I would have liked to have run a bit quicker, maybe I shouldn't have doubled up, and should have just concentrated on one event," said Devonish. "However, it is always fun to run in front of a British crowd.
"My strategy was to try and work the turn and come hard out of the corner, which unfortunately felt a bit flat but I have the Commonwealth Games coming up so I just want to see what happens there."
Also at the South London venue, Tina Brown improved her personal best to 9min 48.08 despite finishing 12th in the women's 3000m steeplechase which Kenya's Milcah Chemos beat Russian Yuliya Zarudneva by 0.11secs, 9:22.49 the winning time, in an exciting sprint finish.
