Coventry kid Ian Bell made only two runs from nine balls before he was caught out during England's second innings of the third test at Old Trafford.
Bell was a victim of the bowling of debutant Darren Sammy whose seven wickets haul saw England skittled out for 313.
Needing 455 to win in two days, the West Indies were 22-1 at the close.
