Rain Defeats Warwicks

Warwickshire County Cricket Club were denied by rain in their opening Twenty/20 game versus Glamorgan.

At Sophia Gardens in Cardiff, Warwicks were put in to bat. Coventry kid Ian Bell and Neil Carter were the openers in the first twenty/20 game of the season. They made 54 in six overs before Neil Carter was skittled for 29.



The home side sent on the spinners and Ian Bell who hit one six and five fours in a knock of 42 was caught. Jon Trott,Warwicks best player at this version of the game, was bowled by Cosker three runs later and then Jim Troughton went for seven runs.

In the 12th over and Warwicks on 94-4, the players were forced to leave the pitch due to rain.

Play was delayed for an hour and a quarter and the game reduced to 19 overs a side but Warwicks were back on the field. Tim Ambrose was the fifth batsman to lose his wicket with a thick edge to David Harrison and the score on 111-5 in the fifteenth over.

Ant Botha was out with the score on 117-6 and in the penultimate over, Westwood weas caught by Hemp.

Tim Gronevald hit a six to finish on 15 not out as Warwicks finished their innings on 140-7.

As Glamorgan prepared to start their innings, rain fell and the match was abandoned with no result.
