Hot on the heels of their dramatic comeback against Poole last friday, and the narrow 1 point victory away at Wolverhampton at the start of the week, the Coventry Bees travelled to Swindon to meet the Robins in an Elite League match.
With rider replacement for the injured Olly Allen, and Bees No 8 Ben Barker in the side for the injured Andreas Messing the Bees hoped for yet another away victory to help them progress up the table.
The meeting didn't start off the best for the Bees who were 6 points down after the first 3 heats, further compounded by going 10 points down after heat 6.
This gap remained the same until heat 11 when Chris Harris took a double points scoring tactical ride and finished second behind the Robins Troy Batchelor.
With Swindon led by Leigh Adams who was in his usual high scoring form it took a brilliant ride by chris Harris to defeat Leigh in heat 13, the resulting 4-2 advantage, with Simon Stead taking third place, brought the deficit down to 6 points.
A quite brilliant ride by reserve Ben Barker in heat 14, ably supported by Billy Janniro meant a maximum heat advantage to the Bees and the result yet again hung on the final heat with the Robins ahead now by only two points.
With Chris Harris lining up alongside Rory Schlein, to take on Leigh Adams and Troy Batchelor for the Robins, hopes were high but Leigh Adams gated well and took the lead, safeguarding the Robins victory.
Behind him though a battle between Chris Harris and Troy Batchelor led to the pair touching going into turn 3 and Batchelor falling, though without any serious injury.
The meeting referee adjudged Chris to have been the cause of Batchelor falling, excluded him and awarded the heat to the Robins for a maximum 5-1, and a final score of Swindon 49, Coventry 43.
The Bees scorers on the night were as follows:
Chris Harris 2 3 4^ 3 X = 12
Olly Allen Rider Replacement
Rory Schlein 2 2 2 1* 1 = 8+1
Billy Janniro R 1* 1* 1* 2* = 5+4
