On saturday night the Czech speedway GP took place in the Marketa stadium on the outskirts of the lovely city of Prague, which is well worth a visit.
Following a practice session on friday which took place in temperatures touching 33 deg, race day itself was a much cooler affair following a thunderstorm 2 hours before the meeting started. As is usual at Prague there was a very sizeable Polish contingent on the terraces surrounding the track but it was very pleasing to see a St Georges flag bearing Coventry City proudly alongside the numerous Polish colours.
Chris Bomber Harris started as a favourite after his victory in Cardiff last month but alas this meeting was not to be for him, and despite some hard riding he achieved his GP seasons aim of scoring 5 points in each round by getting that exact tally.
Scott on the other hand began with a last place but in his next race, lining up against Bomber, Scott started well and commanded the 1st turn to lead all the way. From there he gained momentum and finished with 10 ppoints overall to put him safely into the semi-finals.
In amongst all this former Bee Andreas Jonsson hit the air fence very hard in his 4th ride after picking up too much grip on the 3rd turn, as he chased Scott who was in front before the race was stopped. Although AJ got to his feet to warm applause from the crowd his GP meeting was over.
Reigning champion Jason Crump also surprised those in attendance on friday by riding with a broken knee-cap and scored a creditable 11 points. All wish him well for an operation that was due today Monday 30th July.
So back to the semi-finals and Scott, starting off gate 2, secured a 2nd place finish to go into the final where he unfortunately got allocated the unfavourable outside gate 4.
A decent start had Scott in 3rd going into the 3rd turn of lap 1, but he entered this too hot and alas was relegated to last place despite all his efforts.
Dane Nicki Pedersen extended his overall championship lead by winning all of his races on the night and was a class above, took the chequered flag in the final.
So a successful GP for Scott, not so good for Bomber who sits in 6th in the overall standings on 61 points, whilst Scott remains in 10th place with 42 points, but now only 3 points behind Jonsson in the all important 8th place.
The next speedway action sees the Bees at home against Poole tonight in front of the Sky TV cameras.
