Coventry born Cal Crutchlow finished second in the Monster Energy Grand Prix de France at Le Mans.
On Saturday the former Stoke Park pupil had sustained a fracture to the top of his shin bone, but decided to race and he started in fourth.
Crutchlow rode well and passed Dovizioso in the closing stages to finish second behind winner Dani Pedrosa and tweeted: "A big thanks to whole of my Monster Energy Tech3 Yamaha team ! Always believed we could reach podium early season… & now the rest."
