Sphinx Through In Vase Win

Coventry Sphinx are through to the FA Vase Third Qualifying Round after a 3-0 win at Midland Combination side Heather St Johns.

With Lynton Wilkinson and Martin Smith deputising for the unavailable Paul Charnley, Sphinx scored three times in the first half to see off a side they beat 6-0 in a pre-seasson friendly.

Carl Hinds put Sphinx ahead in the 9th minute with two goals from Kyle Rhodes in the 24th & 45th minute completing the scoring.

Nuneaton Griff came from three goals down at home to Long Eaton United to earn a replay. A first half hat-trick from Steadman had put the visitors in front but second half goals from Moore,Harris and Parsons four minutes from time mean a midweek trip to Derbyshire.

Atherstone lost 3-2 at Gedling MW with Dominc Reece and Ezekiel Tomlinson getting the Adders back to 2-2 with only fifteen minutes gone. Gedling won the match in the 56th minute thanks to a goal from Chris Henson.

Racing Club Warwick lost 2-0 at Glapwell and Southam were beaten 4-2 at home by Stone Dominoes.

In the Conference North, Nuneaton beat Leigh RMI 1-0 at Liberty Way. 

Rugby Town drew 2-2 at home with Tiverton Town. VS led 2-1 but an own goal from former City youngster Aaron Stringfellow meant a draw.

BGB Midland scores saw Leamington win 2-0 at Evesham thanks to a brace from former Sky Blue Ben Mackey whilst Bedworth were pegged back to a 1-1 draw at Malvern Town. 

In the Midland Combination Premier Division, Coventry Copsewood lost 3-4 at home to Continental Star whilst Massey Ferguson drew 0-0 at home to  Bartley Green.

ECC Round 1 result saw Stockingford win 3-0 at Kenilworth Town KH and in 
Division One, Leamington Hibernian lost 3-1 at home to Fairfield Villa.

In the Reserve Division, unbeaten Coventry Sphinx Reserves beat Rugby Town 6-0 at Sphinx Drive.
