BEATON "SIGNS" UP FOR CHARITY EVENT
STEVE BEATON has shown his support for the DEAFinitely Darts charity event as he prepares for next week's StanJames.com World Matchplay.
Earl Shilton-based Beaton will take on world number 16 Paul Nicholson in the first round of the World Matchplay in Blackpool on Tuesday night, live on Sky Sports.
The Coventry-born former World Champion Beaton broke off from his preparations for the £400,000 tournament to learn the sign language for his "Adonis" nickname, in support of October's DEAFinitely Darts event.
The fundraising event, organised by the PDC's official charity, SignHealth, a healthcare charity for deaf people, will see pubs and clubs across the UK playing darts simultaneously on Thursday October 21 in a world record creating effort.
"It's great to be able to support SignHealth and I'm right behind the DEAFinitely Darts event," said the Coventry City supporting Beaton.
"It was good fun to learn the sign language for "The Adonis" but it also showed me some of the difficulties that deaf people can face. Hopefully this event will enable SignHealth to provide further support for them."
Pubs and clubs can enter eight-player teams for the DEAFinitely Darts event, who will compete in their own venue the night, with prizes on offer for the pub or club which raises the most money for the SignHealth charity.
