Stingrays Feel The Blaze Heat

Coventry Blaze Ice Hockey team warmed up for their big game against Elite League leaders Sheffield Steelers tomorrow night with a 6-2 victory at Hull Stingrays.

Paul Thompson's side needed only 42 seconds to get on the scoresheet through Russ Cowley, who scored assisted by Danny Stewart and Matt Soderstrom.



The home side levelled through Lee Mitchell on 2.18 but exactly six minutes later, the Blaze were back in front when Barrie Moore finished off an Sylvain Deschalets assist.

Into the second period and the Blaze added a third on 26.56 when Blake Forsyth scored on a powerplay.

With Carlyle Lewis off the ice for hooking, James Cooke made it 2-3 on 31.11.

That was the Blaze's first penalty minutes of the match and only six more minutes were conceded.

Having all their men on the ice for eighteen out of the twenty minutes in the second period, gave the Blaze a good advantage and Russ Cowley added a fourth on 32.36 with the fifth coming courtesy of Dan Carlson who was assisted by Lewis and Calder on 38.46.

With three and a half minutes of the final period to play, the margin of victory was stretched to four clear goals when JF Perras played in Jon Weaver, who found Danny Stewart and the forward duly gratefully fired home the puck much to the travelling Blaze supporters delight.

Face off against Sheffield Steelers tomorrow night is at 6pm.
