Warwickshire County Cricket Club got off to a good start on the opening day of their County Championship game against Glamorgan in Cardiff.

Warwicks won the toss and opted to bat first. Ian Westwood and Poonia put on 119 for the first wicket which became 119-2 when Michael Powell was dismissed for a duck after facing only three balls.

With Poonia out for 37 and Powell without scoring, Jon Trott made 43 before he was caught with the score on 197 and Jim Troughton became the fourth player to lose his wicket when he was given lbw for three.

Acting captain Ian Westwood batted all day and survived being dropped on seventy to hit 17 fours in a superb innings which was his highest ever County Championship score. At the close.Westwood was 139 not out with Tony Frost 42 and Warwicks were 278-4.

In the test match at Trent Bridge, England were eventually all out for 364 thanks to some good batting from Stuart Broad and James Anderson. Chris Martin, who will join Warwickshire after the match for the rest of the season took 1-83.

Whilst,Anderson was useful with the bat,he was deadly with the ball and tore through New Zealand's batting order. Anderson took all six wickets including two catches from Warwickshire's Tim Ambrose to leave the visitors reeling at 96-6 before bad light ended play for the day.
