Tom McGuire put Sphinx two goals up before the visitors pulled one back. Chris Harris added a third for Sphinx who now travel to Stanway Rovers in a fortnight.
Essex based Stanway beat Formby 4-2 and are mid-table in the Ridgeons League (or the old Eastern Counties League) which includes teams from Essex,Norfolk and Suffolk. Their home ground is called the Hawthorns.
